Our Story

"Nothing is more memorable than a smell. One scent can be unexpected, momentary and fleeting, yet conjure up a childhood summer beside a lake in the mountains; another, a moonlit beach; a third, a family dinner of pot roast and sweet potatoes during a myrtle-mad August in a Midwestern town. Smells detonate softly in our memory like poignant land mines hidden under the weedy mass of years."

At Oligie, capturing the nostalgic pleasure of scent and distilling it into a wearable parfum oil or home scent intrigued us. But distilling exotic or beloved locations around the planet into an awe-inspiring fine fragrance wasn’t enough. As our team of travel lovers began obsessing together on the idea that was to become Oligie, we knew we needed to do things a bit (or maybe a lot) differently.

The alcohol that makes up most perfumes dries out your skin. A lot of fragrances also come with man-made chemicals that may be endocrine disrupting, too.

And we weren’t okay with that.

Instead of alcohol, our fine fragrances use a base of organic unscented fractionated coconut oil that actually returns moisture to the skin—the exact opposite of alcohol. We also deliberately said no to all the “nasties” that riddle most perfumes.

At the same time, we believe that sustainability should be at the heart of all business operations. At Oligie, our intention is to be more gentle on both our bodies and the planet. That's why we also built our modular home fragrance system to reduce waste by reusing most of the components and using materials that can be recycled when they can’t be reused. It’s not perfect, yet, but it’s definitely the right place to start. We are dedicated to doing as much as we can to being eco-gentle. We view Oligie as important stewards of our planet that we owe our children, grandchildren, and all our future generations to enjoy. It's not simply a coring corporate mission—it's our calling.
